Updates On Our 2024 Graduate Program

As we gear up for the month of May, we look back on the progress of our graduate program. After a month packed with engaging workshops, hands-on soft skill exercises, and team-building adventures in January, our 12 developer graduates have now smoothly transitioned into their roles on Retro Rabbit projects, putting their skills to the test with our amazing Rabbits guiding them every step of the way.

At the same time, they've been diving into their own passion projects, showcasing their unique talents and creativity. These projects not only highlight their skills but also their ability to think outside the box and solve problems creatively.

In the upcoming weeks, our grads will showcase their personal projects to a panel of Retro Judges, competing for the top spot and the personal project of the year trophy. It's a culmination of their efforts, showing how far they've come and the exciting potential they bring to the table.

Here is what some of the grads had to say about their experience thus far;

So far the grad program has been phenomenal! Only a few months in and I already feel part of the Retro Rabbit furniture, so to speak. My journey thus far has not been without its trials and tribulations though but I feel like each challenge I have faced has made me a better developer than when I started in January. The exposure to different tech stacks I have received while consulting for Telesure has opened my eyes to the many avenues one can take in software development and has even influenced some tech choices in my personal capacity and for my own projects. This grad program has also given me the chance to grow my social circle with fellow grads and connect with more senior developers in the industry whom I can turn to for advice and guidance. Sometimes I can get caught up in the hustle and bustle of work but if I pause, take a step back, and look at the experience I have gained and memories I have made; I would not trade it for anything.
- Luke Mross

What I really appreciate about Retro is the people and the high quality of work being produced here. I’m constantly surprised by how much I keep learning from everyone. One of the coolest things I've picked up is how high-level theory plays out in the real world— understanding why we do things the way we do and how we approach problem-solving. I feel super lucky to be part of this team and for the opportunity to grow and learn continuously.
- Rorisang Serpelo

Entering the graduate program posed challenges, but it was a rewarding experience. I acquired a wealth of knowledge, particularly in technical standards, which proved invaluable for client work. Although starting at the client was initially tough, it became immensely rewarding. Over the first two months, I absorbed a significant amount of information and underwent personal and professional growth. Despite the difficulties, absorbing this knowledge was essential, laying a solid foundation for the future.
- Ciara Massyn

As our graduates embark on this next chapter of their journey, we extend our heartfelt wishes for a successful and fulfilling year ahead. We are confident that they will continue to grow and thrive, making significant contributions to the tech industry and leaving their mark as exceptional developers.
